A single-sphere grooved rubber flexible coupling is a flexible piping component designed for installation between pumps, valves, equipment connections and grooved piping systems. Its elastic rubber body helps absorb operating vibration, structural noise, thermal movement and minor installation misalignment.

Both ends are equipped with metal grooved connectors designed for use with compatible grooved couplings. Compared with conventional flanged connections, the grooved arrangement can simplify installation, removal and maintenance where the piping system has matching groove dimensions and coupling components.

Construction

The coupling generally consists of an inner rubber layer, reinforcement fabric, steel-wire or metal reinforcement, an outer rubber layer and grooved metal connection ends.

The inner rubber layer is selected for compatibility with the process medium. Reinforcement layers improve pressure resistance and dimensional stability, while the outer rubber layer protects the internal reinforcement from environmental exposure.

The metal ends are machined with grooves corresponding to the selected coupling system. Groove dimensions, coupling size and sealing components should be verified before installation.

Material Options

Rubber material should be selected according to the process medium, operating temperature, pressure and surrounding environment. Common options include EPDM, NBR, NR, CR and other special compounds.

Grooved metal connectors can be manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, ductile iron or other specified materials according to the piping system and project requirements.

The product should not be forcibly stretched, compressed, twisted or offset during installation. It is not a substitute for pipe anchors, guides or load-bearing supports. Limiting or pull-out protection may be required in systems with pressure fluctuations or excessive movement risk.
