?What are the most common piping problems in wastewater treatment plants?
Common problems include blockages from grease and solids, leakage, hydrogen sulfide corrosion, abrasion, pipe settlement, flange misalignment, pump vibration, pressure surges, gas accumulation and insufficient equipment-removal clearance.
?Can a rubber expansion joint solve pump vibration problems?
It can help reduce the transmission of some mechanical vibration, but it cannot correct pump misalignment, cavitation, foundation movement, defective equipment or improperly supported piping.
?Which elastomer should be used for wastewater service?
Selection depends on the actual wastewater composition. EPDM may be evaluated for selected water and wastewater services, while NBR may be evaluated for selected mineral-oil media. Chemicals, temperature, solids and exposure conditions must be confirmed.
?Can rubber joints be used to eliminate water hammer?
No. Water hammer and transient pressure require review of pump controls, valve characteristics, check valves, air management, surge equipment and the complete hydraulic system.
?Why are dismantling joints used near wastewater valves?
They provide controlled installation adjustment and create axial clearance for removing valves, meters and other flanged equipment after the pipeline has been isolated, drained and independently supported.
?What information is needed for a wastewater pipeline fitting quotation?
Provide the medium and solids content, temperature, pressure, possible vacuum, nominal size, actual pipe OD, interface standard, installed length, movement, supports, materials, coating, quantity, drawings and documentation requirements.
