Single-Sphere Wide-Flange Rubber Flexible Connector Overview

A single-sphere wide-flange rubber flexible connector is installed between pumps, valves, equipment nozzles and industrial pipelines to provide a flexible connection. The elastic rubber body helps absorb vibration, noise, thermal movement and minor installation misalignment within the specified operating range.

Compared with rigid pipe fittings, the rubber connector helps reduce the transmission of mechanical vibration and structural noise through the piping system. It can also reduce additional loads transferred to pumps, valves, flanges and pipe supports. The wide-flange connection can be manufactured to match different flange drilling standards, sealing faces and project-specific dimensions.

Key Features

  • Helps isolate vibration generated by pumps, valves and equipment
  • Reduces structural noise transmission through the piping system
  • Accommodates limited axial compression and extension
  • Allows limited lateral movement and angular deflection
  • Helps reduce stress caused by minor pipeline misalignment
  • Wide-flange design supports convenient installation and maintenance
  • Available with different rubber compounds, flange materials and standards

Construction

The connector generally consists of an inner rubber layer, reinforcement fabric, steel-wire reinforcement, an outer rubber layer and connection flanges. The inner rubber layer is selected for compatibility with the process medium. Reinforcement fabric and steel wire improve pressure resistance and dimensional stability, while the outer rubber layer protects the reinforcement structure from environmental exposure.

Material Options

Rubber material should be selected according to the process medium, operating temperature, pressure and surrounding environment. Common options include EPDM, NBR, NR, CR and other special compounds. Flanges can be manufactured from carbon steel, ductile iron, stainless steel or other specified materials.

  • EPDM for water, hot water, air and weather-resistant applications
  • NBR for selected oil and oil-containing media
  • NR for general water service and applications requiring good elasticity
  • CR for applications requiring weather and ozone resistance
  • Special linings or compounds for project-specific corrosive media

Final material compatibility should be confirmed according to the medium composition, concentration, temperature, pressure and required service life.

Movement Capability

A single-sphere rubber flexible connector can accommodate limited axial compression, axial extension, lateral movement and angular deflection. Actual allowable movement depends on nominal size, face-to-face length, pressure rating, rubber construction and reinforcement design.

The connector should not be forcibly stretched, compressed, twisted or offset during installation. It is not a substitute for pipe anchors, guides or load-bearing supports. Control rods or limiting rods may be required where pressure fluctuations, excessive movement or pull-out risks are present.

Typical Applications

  • Water supply, drainage and wastewater systems
  • Pump stations and pump suction or discharge piping
  • HVAC and circulation-water systems
  • Seawater and marine auxiliary pipelines
  • Power, chemical and industrial process piping
  • Equipment connections requiring vibration and noise isolation

Installation Guidelines

  • Confirm nominal size, pressure rating, flange standard and rubber material
  • Keep mating flanges aligned and parallel during installation
  • Do not twist or excessively stretch the rubber body
  • Tighten flange bolts gradually in a diagonal sequence
  • Do not use the connector to support pipe, valve or equipment weight
  • Protect the rubber body from welding heat, sparks and sharp objects
  • Confirm sufficient movement space and proper support arrangement

Information Required for Selection

Please provide the following information so that the appropriate product configuration and material can be evaluated:

  • Nominal diameter and face-to-face length
  • Design pressure and operating pressure
  • Operating temperature and ambient temperature
  • Process medium and concentration
  • Required axial, lateral and angular movement
  • Flange standard, pressure class and sealing-face type
  • Required rubber and flange materials
  • Control-rod or limiting-rod requirements
  • Quantity, packaging requirements and destination port

We can manufacture single-sphere wide-flange rubber flexible connectors according to operating conditions, connection dimensions and project drawings. Final materials, dimensions, pressure rating, movement capacity and inspection requirements are subject to the approved technical specification and manufacturing drawing.

常见问题

常见问题

Which media is Single-ball, wide-flanged rubber flexible coupling suitable for?
Common media include water, seawater, hot water, some oils, acids and alkalis. Rubber material should be confirmed by medium, temperature and concentration.
How should EPDM, NBR or PTFE lining be selected?
EPDM is common for water and weather resistance, NBR is often used for oil service, and PTFE lining is suitable for more corrosive media. Final selection depends on medium and temperature.
Are limit rods required?
Limit rods are recommended when large movement, pressure fluctuation or anti-pullout protection is required.
What should be noted during installation?
Avoid twisting, over-stretching and forced eccentric connection. Tighten flange bolts evenly and confirm limit arrangement according to site supports.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide DN/NPS, pressure class, working temperature, medium, connection type, movement, quantity and application position for Single-ball, wide-flanged rubber flexible coupling. Drawings or site photos help speed up confirmation.
Can this product be customized by project drawing?
Yes. Single-ball, wide-flanged rubber flexible coupling can be confirmed according to drawings, operating conditions, flange standard, material, installation space and packing requirements. Final specifications follow the confirmed drawing and order.
What inspections are made before shipment?
Typical checks include appearance, key dimensions, connection areas, sealing surfaces, welding or assembly quality and packing condition. Pressure, airtightness or material checks can be added when required by the order.
How are packing and export documents confirmed?
Packing can be confirmed according to product size, weight, shipping method and destination requirements. Packing list, invoice and project documents follow the confirmed order.
