A maintenance-free sleeve expansion joint is a sliding pipeline compensator designed to absorb axial movement caused by thermal expansion and contraction. It is commonly used in district-heating, steam, hot-water, circulation-water and industrial transmission pipelines.
The product is suitable for piping systems requiring relatively large axial movement capacity, compact installation dimensions and reduced routine maintenance. During operation, the inner and outer sleeves slide relative to each other along the pipeline axis, allowing thermal movement to be accommodated within the designed travel range.
A maintenance-free sleeve expansion joint generally consists of an inner sleeve, outer sleeve, long-life sealing assembly, connection ends, guiding components and any required limiting or protective structure.
Proper alignment and sliding fit between the inner and outer sleeves help maintain stable operation throughout the designed movement range. The body, sleeves and connection components can be manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel or other specified materials according to the design pressure, operating temperature, process medium and corrosion requirements.
The sealing material and sealing arrangement should be selected according to the medium, temperature, pressure, movement frequency and required service life.
Maintenance-free sleeve expansion joints are primarily designed to accommodate movement along the pipeline axis. They should not be used to absorb significant lateral movement, angular movement or torsion unless the product has been specifically engineered for those loads.
Proper anchors and pipe guides should be installed to keep the joint aligned and to direct thermal movement along the intended axis. Actual movement capacity should be determined from the pipeline length, temperature difference, thermal-expansion coefficient and installation conditions.
“Maintenance-free” means that the sealing and low-friction sliding structure is designed to reduce routine lubrication, packing adjustment and frequent disassembly under the specified operating conditions.
It does not mean that inspection is unnecessary throughout the entire service life. The sealing area, connections, sleeve position, anchors and pipe guides should still be checked according to the project inspection and maintenance schedule.
Before installation, verify the product orientation, face-to-face length, preset movement, pipeline centerline and the locations of anchors and guides. The joint should not be forced into alignment or subjected to lateral loading during installation.
The expansion joint should not support pipeline or equipment weight. Before commissioning, confirm that sufficient movement travel is available and that the connections, sealing area and support system comply with the approved piping design.
Please provide the following information so that the product structure and technical proposal can be properly evaluated:
We can design and manufacture maintenance-free sleeve expansion joints according to operating conditions, connection dimensions, piping layouts and project drawings. Final construction, materials, face-to-face length, movement capacity, sealing arrangement and inspection requirements are subject to the approved technical specification and manufacturing drawing.
| No. | Component | Material / Form | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Outer sleeve / inner sleeve | 304 / 316L stainless steel or drawing-confirmed material | Forms the axial sliding compensation stroke and supports pipeline guidance |
| 2 | Maintenance-free sealing structure | Seal material selected by medium, temperature and pressure | Reduces routine adjustment frequency and supports sealing performance during operation |
| 3 | Connection ends | Flanged or welded ends | Selected by pipe connection, pressure class and site installation condition |
| 4 | Guide / limit parts | Carbon steel, stainless steel or project-specified material | Supports installation positioning, stroke control and operating protection |
